How to Pass GCSE Maths: A Practical Starting Point

A calm, useful framework for diagnosing gaps, practising effectively and preparing for the exam.

Start with an honest diagnosis

Passing GCSE Maths becomes more manageable when revision begins with the topics that actually need attention. Use a recent paper or topic checklist to separate secure skills from uncertain ones.

Do not treat every mistake equally. A forgotten fact, an arithmetic slip and a misunderstood concept require different responses.

Practise in the right order

First understand a method, then practise it without notes, and finally recognise it inside mixed exam questions. Mark work carefully and return to errors after a short gap.

Short, regular sessions are usually easier to sustain than occasional revision marathons. Keep a simple record of topics to revisit.

Use papers as feedback

Past papers are most valuable when they reveal decisions: which method to choose, how to show working and when to move on. Review the mark scheme after making a genuine attempt.
